Here’s Why Nobody Reads Your Medium Stories
You’re boring. There, I said it.
Six months-ish ago, I made an effort to follow more new writers on Medium. As someone who’s been in the business of creating content for over a decade, both personally and professionally, I wanted to keep my finger on the pulse of what’s new in the industry.
Apparently, not much.
We’re all fascinating in our own minds. Most of us are actually fascinating to others. Or at least could be, with the right effort.
But here are the top five posts I see on almost every new writer’s Medium profile:
- About Me — a bio-cum-manifesto of who they are and why they’re writing
- A post about writing
- A beg for followers, or thanks for followers already received
- An original and interesting article
- A poem
Nobody — and I cannot stress this enough — nobody cares. I don’t want to read your manifesto about why you’re writing, or a poem you wrote at 14 and thought was deep. I want to read something I can’t get somewhere else. I want you to live up to the promise of the single compelling post you created before you abandoned that idea.
