Now isn’t the time for reconciliation

America needs to stop sweeping its dirt under the carpet

The election of Joe Biden and defeat of Donald Trump isn’t the end of this dark chapter in American history, but what happens next could at least be the beginning of the end.

Already, talking heads and think pieces are urging conciliation, telling Democrats to have compassion for the loser Republicans while they come to terms with their loss. We have friends, they say, who are feeling sad and defeated and need us to reach across the political gulf and kiss their boo-boos better.

Yeah, no. After four long, dark years, I guarantee you, I don’t make friends with fascists.

It’s all well and good to demand empathy when you suddenly find yourself on the losing side, but where was their empathy…
